Privacy
This page explains what we collect when you visit this website, why we collect it, and how long we keep it. It is written to be read.

The short version
We do not set cookies. We do not run any advertising or analytics code from another company on this site — no Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, no Pinterest tag, no chat widget, no embedded tracker of any kind. Nothing on this site follows you to another website.
We do count visits, so we know which articles are worth writing more of. That counting happens from our own web server's records, after the fact, not from anything running in your browser.
What we actually collect
Our web server writes a line to a log file every time it sends someone a page. That line contains the date and time; the address of the page requested, including anything after the question mark in the URL, which is how we see campaign tags when you arrive from a link we shared; the address of the page that linked you here, if your browser sent one; your browser's user-agent string, which is the browser and operating system it reports itself as; the response code and the number of bytes sent; and your IP address.
That is the whole list. It is an ordinary web server log, and nearly every website on the internet keeps one.
What we throw away, and when
Several times a day we copy that log to our own server and turn it into counts. Your IP address is used once in that step and then discarded. We combine it with your browser's user-agent, the date, and a secret value, run all of that through a one-way hash, and keep only the result. Your IP address is never stored in our analytics database and never appears in any report.
Because the date is part of what goes into that hash, the value changes every day. It is useful for counting how many different people visited on a single day, and it cannot be used to recognise you tomorrow or reversed back into your IP address.
We keep only the host of the referring website — pinterest.com, google.com — and never the full referring address, because a full address can carry someone's search terms or the title of a private page.
We drop requests from search engine crawlers and other obvious automated traffic, requests for images and files, and any request that did not successfully return a page.
The raw logs, which do contain IP addresses, are kept for two days and then deleted permanently. Two days is deliberate: long enough for our copying job to fail and be fixed, short enough that we are not keeping a record of who visited.
What we can see afterwards
Once that processing is done, what we hold is counts rather than people: how many pages were viewed, how many different visitors there were on a given day, which pages were most read, which websites sent us traffic, and which campaign tags people arrived with.
We keep these aggregate counts for 24 months.
We cannot look up an individual person in this data, because there is nothing in it that identifies one.
Cookies
We do not use cookies on this website. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to: we are not storing anything on your device and not reading anything from it.
If that ever changes, this page will say so before it happens, and you will be asked first.
What we may add, and what we will not
We are considering measuring two more things, and we would rather say so before than after. The first is how long a page is open and how far down it is scrolled — our server's records show a page being requested and never a visitor leaving, so today we cannot tell a two-second glance from a ten-minute read. The second is where people click and hover on a page, counted as a rough grid and added up across everyone who visited it.
If we build these, they will be delivered by one small script written by us and hosted by us on this site. It would set no cookie, store nothing on your device, and send nothing to any other company.
What we will not do, and are not building: we do not record your screen, we do not replay your session, we do not capture your keystrokes, and we do not record what you type into a form before you send it. There is no per-visitor recording of any kind and no plan for one. We will not place another company's tracking code on this site.
This page will be updated before any of that goes live, and the date at the top will change.
Who else sees this
Our analytics data stays on servers we control. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with advertising networks or data brokers.
This website is delivered through Cloudflare, which sits in front of it and sees requests as our infrastructure provider. They do not use this traffic for their own advertising.
Your choices
Because we do not identify individual visitors, we usually cannot find “your” data to show you or delete — there is no name, email address, or device identifier attached to a page view.
If you have written to us, we do hold your email address, and you can ask us to show you what we have or delete it. Email privacy@designcenternw.com and we will handle it.
This site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes, and how to reach us
If we change what we collect, we will change this page and update the date at the top. Anything that adds a new kind of collection will be described here in plain language.
